Tsibele
and
ensOleil

Catch an innovative double bill of new-traditional klezmer and avant-Isles folk.
Brooklyn-based klezmer band Tsibele explores the limits of the klezmer idiom through improvisation and songs from the edges of klezmer.
Ann Arbor-born pan-Isles folk band Ensoleil combines traditional and contemporary Irish, Scottish, Québecois, and New England influences with original tunes and songs, delving into the realms of contemporary classical music, improvisation, and the written word.

Fragments Duo (Sarah Goldfeather and Justine Aronson)
Tristan Kasten-Krause

Founded in 2014 by soprano Justine Aronson and violinist Sarah Goldfeather, Fragments Duo has been presented by the Permutations concert series and has premiered a work by Brooklyn-based composer Eric Shanfield. They will be featured on the String Orchestra of Brooklyn's String Theories concert series in March. Aronson, hailed by the New York Times as “possessing a deep reservoir of expressive devices,” is a sought-after interpreter of new music and has premiered works by David Lang, Daron Hagen, Christopher Cerrone, Aaron Jay Kernis, Thomas Pasatieri, Fred Hersch, Benjamin C.S. Boyle, Nicholas Deyoe, Andrew McIntosh, and Richard Valitutto. She has appeared with the New York Festival of Song, The Lucerne Festival Academy, The Industry, The Bard Music Festival, The String Orchestra of Brooklyn, Brightwork New Music, The Industry, and modern music collective wild Up. Goldfeather is a Bang On A Can alumnus who is an avid player of new music. She has worked closely with Julia Wolfe on "with a blue dress on" for violin and electronics, which she performed at TEDxMet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She is the founder of the 7-piece new music ensemble, Exceptet and the bandleader of the indie-folk band, Goldfeather, both of which will be featured at the Ecstatic Music Festival at Merkin Hall and the Times Two Series in Boston in March. Goldfeather recently toured with Beth Morrison Project's production of Kansas City Choir Boy starring Courtney Love, and has performed at the Bard Music Festival and Tribeca New Music Festival.

Tristan Kasten-Krause is a Brooklyn-based musician with a drive for modern, avant-garde and emerging sounds. Tristan has worked with progressive artists of all disciplines, realizing compositions with Steve Reich and Alvin Lucier, performing chamber works with Wilco’s Glenn Kotche, collaborating on performance installations with visual artist Ann Hamilton, contributing low rumblings to avant-pop percussion trio Tigue, and making noise and electronic music with members of Cleveland Post-Punk outfit Cloud Nothings. He has performed with New York ensembles such as Contemporaneous, Wet Ink and Ensemble Signal. He is the co-founder and executive director of Real Loud, a New York based non-profit presenting organization. Tristan is a two-year alumnus with Bang on a Can’s Summer Festival at MASS MoCA. He received a master’s degree from the Hartt School where he studied double bass with Robert Black.
