Denis Schuler's composition 1444 was inspired by the painting "La pêche miraculeuse" by Konrad Witz, painted in - 1444! This is the first painting in western art history depicting an existing landscape. The music is very fluent and calm and is a touching meditation on this painting.
In IR Rico Gubler refers to the old tradition of traditional Swiss folk music from Appenzell. In the third movement, the violist and the pianist sing a two-part melody, a New Year's song from Appenzell.
Michael Jarrell Etude was commissioned by the Weimar Musikhochschule Franz Liszt on the occasion of the piano competition Weimar/Bayreuth 2011. Throughout the whole piece he keeps returning to the note f# (in reference to Franz Liszt), as a tremolo or woven into the texture of the music.
These works are joined by two Adagios: the one by Alban Berg is the chamber music version of the second movement from the chamber concerto; the Adagio by Stefano Gervasoni presents his (humorous) interpretation of Mozart's Adagio's KV 356 for “Glasharfe”, here for Toy-Piano and Violin.

Apām Napāt

Apām Napāt (آپام نپات) is a trio by Iranian pianist, violinist and singer Saman Samadi, clarinetist and saxophonist Blaise Siwula, and buchla-player Hans Tammen.
The ensemble presents a set of solos, duos, and trios that draw connections between their musical backgrounds. Using Persian modes and poems as well as a structured and recognizable yet free impulsive interaction between the instruments, they set parallel narratives in motion, occasionally intersecting but always accompanying one another. The trio released their recording Apām Napāt (آپام نپات) in 2016.

John P. Hastings Presents

The Former World is a multi-media essay on ‘deep time’, geologic history, the environment, humanity, and the artist.
The work uses two focal points: the life and writings of the artist Robert Smithson
and the writer John McPhee’s tome on American geologic history, Annals of the Former World.

Dave Miller

Cataclysmic Commentary is a malleable and dynamic new trio of improvising musicians based in New York City. Living in a world of rapidly changing political and socio-economic permutations, they were founded with the premise of integrating these socio-political narratives into their work, sculpting every set according to the particular challenges of the time rathering than relying on an established book of rotely rehearsed material. This manifests in a diversity of repertoire from completely free improvisation, to compositions by members of the ensemble, to pieces by select influential musicians, to folk songs from around the world. All of the works directly relate to and portray a response to the challenges of our current epoch. Cataclysmic Commentary bring awareness and attention to the challenges faced as inhabitants of Planet Earth through a chameleon approach that is ever exploring, asking questions, and adapting accordingly through their music.
