The biographies of these four artists could not be more different and exciting! During Simone's frequent visits to NY they would play together in various ensembles and in 2019 the Easter Quartet had its first performance. High-energy play, subtle bows, sensitive listening to each other and reacting without showcasing secular virtuosity—this is the basis for this fresh ensemble with a New York edge.

Lena Bloch
My Name Is Marina
Suite for voice and Jazz quartet
to the poetry of Marina Tsvetaeva

"Acclaimed saxophonist/composer Lena Bloch reimagines work of
Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva in a new jazz suite,
commissioned by Chamber Music America

“…unwaveringly cohesive…bone-deep gorgeousness…complex, compelling and beautiful, sounds of the highest quality and inspiration.” – Dan McClenaghan, All About Jazz

On the 130th anniversary of the birth of Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva, during a time when immigrants, women and artists face increasing struggle in the United States, acclaimed Russian-born saxophonist and composer Lena Bloch premieres My Name Is Marina, a commissioned jazz suite for ensemble and voice featuring her own English translations of Tsvetaeva’s works. “Throughout my life, Tsvetaeva has served as a model of resilience as an immigrant, an artist and a woman,” says Bloch, “all of which have been under siege in modern political discourse, all the more reason to amplify her voice for a modern audience.

Joining Bloch for the performances will be vocalist Kyoko Kitamura, pianist Jacob Sacks, bassist Ken Filiano, and drummer Michael Sarin. The performances are supported by the Russian-American Cultural Center.

Free admission, donations accepted, live stream viewable after the performance, will be at (add your streaming platform)

Steve Sandberg and Vinicius Gomes Duo

Three-time Emmy-nominated pianist/composer Steve Sandberg leads the Steve Sandberg Quartet, featuring violinist Zach Brock, whose concerts combine performances of classical masterpieces with improvisations on original compositions that are based on these pieces and also draw world music and jazz traditions. He grew up playing classical piano, then became part of New York’s vibrant Latin music scene. Steve has performed with Mario Rivera, Ruben Blades, Rudy Royston, Boris Koslov, Jay Hoggard, Vitor Goncalves, Bebel Gilberto, David Byrne, and many others, and currently teaches from his private studio in New York City and online. He is excited to play in a duo concert with Vinicius Gomes. “A bountiful creative spirit, elevated by very fine musicianship.” -- Jon Sobel, Blogcritics

Born in São Paulo, Brazil and currently living in New York, Vinicius Gomes is a guitarist and composer who explores the dialogue between modern jazz and Brazilian music. His career includes collaborations with saxophonist Seamus Blake, drummer Edu Ribeiro, accordionist Toninho Ferragutti, and saxophonist Paquito Rivera. He has been performing extensively in Europe, Latin America and the U.S. in festivals such as Vienna Jazz (Austria), Offbeat (Switzerland), Riviera Maya Jazz (Caribe - Mexico) Portón del Jazz (Spain), Savassi Jazz (Brazil), Festival de Jazz de Buenos Aires (Argentina), Capão Jazz (Brazil), Jazz a la Calle (Uruguay). Vinicius has performed with his own project and as a collaborator in venues such as Bimhuis (Amsterdam), Smalls (NY), National Sawdust (NY), Blue Note (NY), JazzForum (NY), Duc Des Lombards (Paris), Sunset Sunside (Paris), Hot Club de Lyon, B-Flat (Berlin), Zigzag(Berlin) and many others.
